Does any one out there have a dog that you swear has mental issues? I love my dog dearly but I am convinced that she has serious problems. One of her biggest problems that has been diagnosed is separation anxiety. She has it so bad over the summer that she tried to dig her way out of the spare bedroom in my new home. She actually dug at the carpet until she got to the baseboards!
Soon after that, she was put in her kennel every day. My dog weighs 22 pounds, this cage is made for a 100 pound dog…so there is no way that she had too little space. I also put her toys, rawhides and a brand new bed in tehre with her. I even read that if you put a radio on, that helps them. So I did all of this, and I come home to find that she has tore all of the stuff out of her new $50 bed and actually broke some of the metal rods on teh cage! Now this did not happen every day, but most days I would come home to some type of mess.
Now that my boyfriend is laid off for the winter and at home with her all day she has done much better. well up until last night. I had recently decorated for xmas, and had empty boxes adn bags in a pile for my boyfriend to burn, we thought…o those will be fine over night, lets go to bed. Nope, wrong. She got into those and riped everything to shreds!
She also has an issue with barking at people. She can see out of our windows at home, and any car or person that goes by, she barks or growls at! ANYONE! and she would never hurt anyone, so why does she throw a fit when she sees people?
Now she rarely has an accident in the house, but recently she has been doing it in front of us. We sit on the couch, look over and she is peeing on the carpet and she knows that is a huge no no. So why does she act this way? Why does she seems to just forget?
I am taking her to a vet to see if there is anything they can do or suggest, because I have tried most of the steps to help with her separation anxiety and still no luck. Can anyone give me some advise!
I did get her from a shelter, she was actually rescued from New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck. So I have no clue what kind of life she had, or if this is a reason for her issues. I love her very much but she is a very, very unstable dog.
